Instructors

The academy's Director and Chief Instructor has trained in the martial arts for 32 years. He is a rokudan (sixth degree black belt) in Uechi-Ryu Karate and a nidan (second degree black belt) in Nihon Jujutsu.

Sensei MacPhail has trained with master instructors from this country and around the world and is a member of the Uechi Ryu Karate Association Hong Kong.

Sensei Martin began his martial arts education in 1978. He has trained with Sensei MacPhail since 1988 and joined MacPhail Academy in 2000. He is a godan (fifth degree black belt) in Uechi-Ryu Karate and a shodan (first degree black belt) in Nihon Jujutsu.

Mr. Martin works as computer application programmer and has a Masters Degree in Software Engineering from Brandeis University. He is the proud father of three young children, all students at MacPhail Academy.

Sensei Polito began his martial arts training in 1977 and has trained in multiple disciplines, including Japanese Jujutsu, Brazilian Jujutsu, Judo, Aikido, Iaido, and Kobudo.

Adam brings a unique perspective to the dojo because of the challenges he has overcome. Among these challenges were A.D.D., a speech impediment, and learning disabilities. Karate helped Adam overcome these challenges by giving him a chance to participate in a group setting while focusing on individual development. The dojo environment allowed him to accomplish personal goals while receiving accolades from peers. This helped his confidence, and Adam was able to find a new way of learning that worked for him. Later Adam used this new learning method to assist him in school and business.

Through teaching, Adam offers these same benefits to others who experience a life with similar challenges. Since 2008, Adam has been an instructor at MacPhail Academy and his contributions have been integral to the development of our students. Adam's understanding of the art, coupled with his patience and unique perspective, make him an excellent teacher.
